Please note:
This article is specifically for members with who:
- Have a published profile (that can be found by searching the member name)
- Cannot find their profile when doing a STATEWIDE search
Additionally:
- If your profile is missing from Specialty related searches please see this article.
- If your profile is missing from Find-A-Photographer, please see this article.
If you are met with the... “No Results Found” ...message when conducting a Find-A-Photographer search filtered by STATE, it is important to understand that this message only indicates that there were no results for your specific search -- it does not necessarily mean that the database is not returning results as designed.
Before submitting a Help Desk ticket, please consider the following first:
- Are you a brand new member?
- Have you just recently submitted your profile?
- Have you recently changed you recently changed or published the address associated with your Find-A-Photographer profile?
New members, freshly created profiles, recently published profiles, or changes made to your profile in the ASMP Storefront can take up to 24-hours to publish on the Find-A-Photographer database (and on rare occasions a few hours longer).
GEO-LOCATION LOGIC
Like most geo-location applications on the internet, Find-A-Photographer uses the Google Maps API. This is important to note when considering state-based search results. Google assigns a point (a specific latitude and longitude) within each state and considers that point to be the state -- it does not consider the state borders. Whether or not your profile will be shown is based completely upon your address in relation to the specific point assigned by Google.
For instance, if you conduct a search based upon a STATE and a 25-mile radius, your address must be contained within a 25-mile radius of the point assigned by Google for your profile to be shown in the result.
EXAMPLE
When you conduct a search using "Oregon, USA" with the default 25-mile radius you will receive no results. This is because the arbitrary state point provided by Google is 43.804133, -120.554201 and there are not any photographers within 25 miles of that center point. Bend, Oregon for example, is 45-miles away (approximately) from the Google defined center point.
Using this same logic, it is possible that out-of-state profiles may be shown above your in-state profile depending upon which address is in closer proximity to the point assigned by Google.
